Fossil hunters in the Amazon discover a gill-man living in a remote backwater lagoon.  They try to capture the creature, but it turns the tables on them and traps them in the lagoon.  While typical 1950s monster fare, this film is nevertheless entertaining and features beautifully shot underwater scenes.  Spawned two sequels.  Stars Richard Carlson, Julie Adams, Richard Denning, Antonio Moreno, Nestor Paiva and Whit Bissell.  Directed by Jack Arnold.
