The true story of John F. Kennedy’s service as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant during World War II. The film focuses on the events surrounding the sinking of Kennedy’s PT boat during the Solomon Islands campaign and the crew’s harrowing story of survival and rescue. Interesting for its portrayal of the many servicemen who fought in the small, lesser-known battles of the war. At the time, the film was the first to depict the life of a sitting president. Kennedy set three conditions for the film. The film had to be historically accurate, the profits must go to the survivors of PT 109 and that he had final choice of the lead actor. Starring Cliff Robertson, Robert Culp, Ty Hardin, James Gregory. Directed by Leslie H. Martinson.
