Cleopatra (1963)

Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison star in this historical epic about the last queen of Egypt and her efforts to keep Egypt free of Roman domination.  This lavish spectacle has a reputation as a flop but was quite successful at the box office – just not enough to offset its enormous production cost.  It is still worth a watch today as one of the last epics produced by the old studio system.  Also featuring Roddy McDowell and Martin Landau in major supporting roles.  Written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
