An insurance agent becomes infatuated with a married woman and gets involved in a plot to murder her husband for the insurance money.  As the investigation closes in on him, he begins to understand that he is a victim of manipulation and an elaborate setup.  The quintessential noir classic with an unlikely but perfect cast.  Based on the novel by James M.
