A young boy is raised by Japanese parents in Los Angeles after his mother dies. When war breaks out he is initially turned down for medical reasons until his ability to speak Japanese makes him valuable to the U.S. Marines. He finds himself on Saipan where he uses his unique skills to save Japanese soldiers and civilians determined to die rather than be captured by the Americans. A decent war drama with a well-told backstory and many combat scenes. Stars Jeffrey Hunter, David Janssen, Vic Damone, Patricia Owens, Sessue Hayakawa. Directed by Phil Karlson.
