THEY WERE EXPENDABLE (1945)

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, an experimental squadron of fast-attack torpedo boats is sent to the Philippines to prevent a looming Japanese invasion. As the commander and his second in command try to prove the value of their unit, the Japanese launch their attack. They Were Expendable is a very good World War II drama based on the true story of Lt. John Brinkley. Robert Montgomery who served as a PT Boat officer during the war plays Brinkley. Starring Robert Montgomery, John Wayne, Donna Reed, Jack Holt, Ward Bond, Marshall Thompson. Directed by John Ford.
