A small contingent of British soldiers is left behind to garrison the mission at Rorke’s Drift while the main army marches on to defeat at the Battle of Isandlwana. After destroying the main British column, a large contingent of Zulus break off from their main army and attack the mission. Over the course of two days, the 150 soldiers battle an army of 4,000 Zulus in an engagement that produced eleven Victoria Crosses, Britain’s highest military honor.
