Spartacus is a Thracian slave in the mines of Libya until he is bought by a gladiator school. He survives the brutal training until he is pushed too far and attacks a guard. His fellow gladiators join him and soon the entire countryside is in revolt. His army becomes a beacon of hope for slaves all over Italy but Rome is out to brutally crush the rebellion. This grand epic won four Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actor (Peter Ustinov), Best Color Cinematography, Best Color Art Direction and Best Color Costume Design. Starring Kirk Douglas, Laurence Olivier, Jean Simmons, Charles Laughton, Peter Ustinov and Tony Curtis. Directed by Stanley Kubrick.
