IT CAME FROM BENEATH THE SEA (1955)

It Came from Beneath the Sea (1955) begins when the U.S. Navy’s newest submarine encounters trouble on its first cruise. The trouble turns out to be a giant octopus that was disturbed by nuclear tests in the Pacific. The creature proceeds to wreak havoc on shipping in the North Pacific and ends up in San Francisco Bay where it once again encounters the submarine in a final confrontation.

It Came from Beneath the Sea is another nice example of 1950s science fiction horror in which the monsters are the result of human activity. This film features special effects by the stop motion animation master Ray Harryhausen. Starring Kenneth Tobey, Faith Domergue and Donald Curtis. Directed by Robert Gordon.
